I came across this youtube clip that gave me chills and inspiration all at once. I have never felt so strongly about a movement as I do for the gay rights movement. I remember growing up wishing I could be a part of the valiant Revolutionary War, Civil Rights, and Women’s Rights fights. Well, as I got older I’ve learned that history (unfortunately) repeats itself. But fortunately, history repeats itself for good as well. And we’ve got the growing momentum for LGBT rights to now give us all an important opportunity to step up and be fighters for change. Watch this clip and get blown away.

Shake Shack

Yesterday I went to Shake Shack for the first time. I got the mushroom burger… portabello mushroom, coated with some kind of crumbly outside, and fried with a cheesy interior that immediately oozes out when you take a chomp. The bread was perfectly soft. The Shack sauce was a great mix with mustard. My taste buds had a party.

After one bite I had to take a picture. Check that gooeyness out!

After we finished, I figured I would get a strawberry shake since I was already at the shake shack. It was delicious… but a mistake. I was full until 10PM that night… almost 8 hours later!

Conclusion from this excursion: Shake Shack is NOT overrrated, as I had previously thought

Today I read an article that made me so happy. The United States is set to expand its definition of rape. Since the 1920s, rape has only been defined and statistically counted as “vaginal penetration by a man.” That means men who were forced into having anal or oral intercourse were not considered “raped.” Women who were forced into intercourse by other women were not considered “raped.” The list goes on.

Just another way the Obama administration expands justice in this country. Overlooked definitions can mean a world of difference to victims. Thanks to Mr. President for not overlooking this one.

2012 Begins

Today, while working out in the gym, I thought about creativity. I thought about how much I used to use it– in my writing, in my homemade pop-up holiday cards, in all the colorful letters I wrote, in my dance with the kids, and in the little surprises I loved to make for my friends and family… I try to hold on to the thoughtfulness of these actions, but I wonder if the creativity is still there. Creativity takes time, and let’s be real. I’ve lost time. With it, has the creativity atrophied?

This year I’m making a resolution to write more. I’ll try hard to still write responsibly, keep posts private when appropriate, but I’ve just got to write. I’ll continue a paper journal for when I travel, and continue this blog for my quickfire thoughts. I’ve got to keep writing writing writing. Nonfiction, fiction, opinions, whatever… Thanks to the people who take a glance this way. It has really honed the way I write knowing there could possibly be a pair of eye scrutinizing my words.

I’m also going to eat better (who isn’t?) and run more races. But those are boring resolutions.

And. I’m going to buckle down and rock this semester. Let’s go.

I wrote a post a while ago about how I was confused by all the standards out there for ladies. When I speak my mind, I come off as a bitch. When I don’t, I get stepped on… and other thoughts, too. How do I maintain a balance between my values and coming off feminine? I ended up making this post private because I felt like it would reflect poorly on myself. After all, I wasn’t even sure what I was arguing… I was just confused.

In comes this article, which has helped me find a little direction and given me a little pride in my decisions to speak up for myself. Both women and men alike, it’s worth a read: YOU ARE NOT CRAZY

Thanksgiving foodz

Documenting the foods of my day at home

9:30AM – breakfast. Mommy made fried egg+scallion pancake. one of my faves at home

12:27- Lunch– Ramen noodles with spinach, fish balls, and “sweet not spicy” cakes

3:00PM- boiling cranberries in sugar water– contemplated adding some zest, but decided to keep it simple this year. turkey is in the oven, and potatoes are being peeled!

5:00PM – Asian Thanksgiving dinner! My favorite dishes- crab cakes, pumpkin soup, sweet tofu packets with fried rice and shrimp

Gratitude

Some recent events in my life have really made me miss some old friends. And since it’s Thanksgiving, I`ll give thanks to their friendship. There are people in my life who would defend me and protect me… and for whom I’d do the same, no question. Some of them have already experienced pain at different points in their lives, and I held them and felt their pain too. Some of them pulled me up during my most vulnerable times. Some of them told me things I couldn’t bear hearing, but they told me anyway for my own good. I always tried to do the same. We’ve gone through lots of rough patches… experienced heartbreak, depression, betrayal, death, and loss. I am not happy you and I had to go through these things, but we did. Together. Thank you for so many years of being there for me… As I get older and embark on new adventures, it becomes so clear those friends who will be a part of my life forever. We`ll grow and grow, get stronger and stronger. I miss you all and hope your Thanksgiving is full of love and great food!
