We should do this more often

on August 8, 2009

Zak came to visit yesterday, and after eating a yummy dinner in Porter Exchange, we walked back to the quad and noticed just how beautiful the night was.  So we pulled a towel out, laid down and stared up @ the sky for a good hour, maybe even an hour and a half.  We chatted. We laughed.  We almost fell asleep because the moon and stars above us were like sparkling lullabies.

I’ve lived in the quad for 2 years now, and I’ve never done this. I think everyone should, before Cambridge weather destroys your chance!

I needed it so much too… these past few weeks have been nothing short of stressful, despite it being summer.  I know many of my classmates feel the same fire beneath their feet: to figure out their future, to finish research… to make a crucial decision about cancelling a summer camp due to the public health threat of swine flu in Taiwan.  Oh wait, that’s not something the rest of you had to do, hunh?  Meh. Well, everyone has some kind of worry they need to cast away… and last night there were no worries.  I did not care about friendships lost, or painful memories.  I did not remember the million things I always have to do.  These things are miniscule compared to the vast night sky.

There was a wispy streak among the stars as an airplane pushed through the clouds, like a needle peeking through a cotton ball. I thought, We should do this more often. That way, I wouldn’t always let the little things get to me. I wouldn’t feel the urge to run away screaming.  I wouldn’t let the past hurt me.  Just. relax. and forget.

Thanks Zak.

Have a great rest of the summer, guys!!!

that sounds so lovely… slightly off topic, but do you run by the charles? i’ve been running/jogging a bit this summer in central park while i was in nyc, and there’s a short window of time when cambridge is so beautiful as the trees are turning, and it would be so nice to run with someone.
